This method only works with computers that have legacy BIOS enabled. Most recent computers that have EFI boot mode like Mac from late or newer will not be able to see the hard disk at startup and will not allow you to boot from it because when Windows was installed, there was not EFI partition created. As for the why it happens, and how to do things: The results and wrinkles of the install can be random because the series of steps we go through working with the innards of a virtual software, a virtual machine, AND the Mac OS, add in the code for a new OS on the VM, and then the timing of certain things that go on during the install and on the Mac side, and the several boot-reboot mount-unmount, episodes….
